Supermarkets (Competitors)

Supermarkets pose as another threat for my service due to the flowers within the stores being so reasonably priced and in terms of location, this is ideal as everybody, somewhere lives close by to a supermarket so it is an easier trip that going to a store. Also, when doing the weekly food shop, sometimes it doesn't even cross the mind of the consumer and before they know it they have flowers in their basket/trolley so it does pose as a slight threat. more so out of convenience than the pricing.

Supermarkets that sell flowers are; Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys, Asda, Waitrose, Morrisons, Marks and Spencers which means that someone is most definitely going to have one of these within their area. So, the reason behind this is, why should they not go to their normal supermarket and why should they give Selfridges as chance and allow themselves to see what they have to offer? The reasoning behind this is due to the innovative products, they will not just present flowers, they will have one off,  one of a kind pieces that could light up the room and add that added touch. This could of been what they were missing all along but if they do not give it a try, they will never know and have anywhere else to compare this with.

Within the supermarkets depending on where you are buying from bouquets of flowers range from £1.99 and go unto £30 which is not too pricey for flowers but when you put it into perspective and florists charge only £30 then your value for money does not seen so good. However, this still brings back the consumers and more and more purchases are being made so the attraction must have to be location and set up.

What I need to do is make my designs that creative, that intriguing and exciting that this will make consumers want to get to selfridges first to ensure that they are the guaranteed the limited stock for the deco rational pieces. Im sure the person being bought the gift would want the best quality pieces which then asked the question will you get that from a supermarket or from Selfridges?

With my survey being created, one of the question on there reads; where are you most likely to purchase flowers? and the options are; online, in a supermarket, in a florist, over the phone an other so this will be intriguing for myself to find out what comes out on top. At the moment supermarkets have an extremely low price, but is the quality all that good? although you can get a pretty decent bouquet for £10 would it not be better off to pay an extra £20? This is what I am going to ask people when i arrange a focus group in a week or two.
